Having read and reviewed the first book, I thought I’d better check out this latest one. I’ve been driving trucks for a bunch of years, so I am always wondering what other drivers have to go through, and want to know if they have had to put up with some of the same things I have. The answer is right here in this book. It is a huge affirmative!
If you are just starting out and thinking about driving a big truck, then the first book,Everything You Will Ever Need To Know To Start Driving A Big Truck Or How I Became A Professional Tourist is an excellent place to start. It is the one to get you rollin, when you don’t have any idea what to expect or what you are getting into. It is the one to answer all the questions, that you need to know about trucking, before they become an overwhelming nightmare.
“Driving A Big Truck, The Adventure Continues From A Different Perspective,” is written more from the point of view of someone, who has been at this for quite awhile. It is highly critical of things like the United States Postal Service, various state Departments of Transportation, trucking companies and their management, even your average 4 wheeler operator, and quite a few other things. It is all true. I have seen it many times.
While some of these adventures are really humorous, and especially when you are reading about them from the comforts of a real home, sitting in your recliner, they are quite intense, when you are actually out on the highway in a big truck and experiencing the reality of life and death situations. These things happen every day somewhere on the highway. It is the reality of truck driving.
People that actually go out and make their living doing this stuff, are what keeps this economy rolling along. Without them, life would be very different, if not impossible. There really are no other books like these two out there. Even if you don’t drive big rigs, and don’t ever want to try, you can learn plenty by reading this stuff.
Because I have been through many similar situations as the ones here, I can say it is truly amazing, that anyone would still consider truck driving as an option, when it includes so many obstacles. The public in general has so little idea, what the average truck driver has to put up with, just in order to survive each day. Stuff such as is written on these pages should be required reading for all, because as they say, “Without the trucks, everything stops!”
I don’t know if Steve Richards will write any more on trucking, but the 2 books he has written so far really tell it all. It is great stuff! There is really nothing else like this out there, and at least one person is talking. Highly recommended!
