Question by cassicad75: How do I break from data entry jobs and get into administrative assistant jobs?
I graduated from a secretarial course with a certificate 8 years ago, and still can’t get out of data entry and get an administrative assistant job. I am very proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook…PCs and Mac Computers, some accounting and payroll, excellent organizational skills, reliability, trustworthiness and high ethics (handling cash or account information), typing around 50 WPM, and 2 associates degrees. How do I get employers to see that I am overqualified for data entry, and perfectly suited for administrative assistant jobs?

You will have to review your resume – if you have all those skills and are being overlooked, maybe your cv does not reflect your skillset.
Otherwise maybe you are doing something wrong at interview stage or maybe your Referees are giving you a bad rap?
