Question by wewillneversleep: What kinds of clerical jobs are there in the medical field?
I’m a junior in high school, and I would really like to figure out what I want to do before I start applying for colleges next year. I’m really interested in the medical field, but I would not want to deal with patients all day long. I am rather shy, and squeamish. I think a clerical/office job would be perfect. I just have no idea what kind of office jobs are out there in the medical field. It would be very great if you could help me out with that. Thanks.

I work in Rehabilitation as a administrative coordinator on a ward in the hospital.
Ward Clerk
Electronic record keeping
Patient booking office
Patient Accounts
Auditing
there are many areas in the medical field…do a course on medical terminology, you really need this, they are usually day courses and you get a certificate…and you will learn on the job anyway.
You will need to do Business Admin/Secreterial course through college to get your foot through the door….try doing work experience at the hospital or Doctors surgery for experience.
Wages are good, better than the average.

I took a Medical Office Assistant course,,I only got a certificate, which was 3 semesters…but there are Associate degrees that you could get, which would be better because once you have an associates degree,, it will count towards a bachelors degree if you decide to further your education later on, with the possibility of extra course hours if they change their curriculum, but with a certificate they might not recognize that years down the line. But they also have courses that are only 2 semesters, so you could try that out to see if you like it. Then it will be pretty easy for you to get a receptionist type job at a doctors office doing clerical work..
