Question by Healthy Environment: Why are there very few men who apply for clerical jobs?
I’ve heard some people say,
“They think it’s beneath them.”
but I’ve seen men work dirtier jobs.
I’ve seen men flip burgers at McDonald’s.
How can a clean office job be beneath their dignity, but yet they are willing to flip burgers at McDonald’s?
That doesn’t make sense.
So why are there very few men who are interested in clerical positions such as
an administrative assistant,
or a secretary.

As a general rule men cannot multitask, therefore would not be very good at the job, so it would not be very fulfilling for them.
I don’t think it has anything to do with dignity, more like interest in the task at hand.

They do not want to do women’s work.~
Usually it’s because women are better at that kind of job. Multitasking and organization are skills at which females are superior. Males are better at focusing on singular tasks. Also women look better as the first person one sees when walking into an office and sound better on the phone.
Look, either sex can do clerical work equally well, but that’s not so with more difficult work. With a smaller pool of available workers it should be no surprise that men average highers salaries.
